LINE-UP: LIZ LOCHHEAD - SUE TOMPKINS - SCOTT HUTCHISON of FRIGHTENED RABBIT:

LIZ LOCHHEAD:
was appointed Scots Makar – the National Poet for Scotland – in 2011 (succeeding Edwin Morgan), Liz is both transgressive and hugely popular; she’s a prolific poet and playwright. In the early 1970s she joined Philip Hobsbaum's writers' group, a crucible of creative activity - other members were Alasdair Gray, James Kelman and Tom Leonard. Her plays include Blood and Ice, Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off (1987), Perfect Days (2000) and a highly acclaimed adaptation into Scots of Molière's Tartuffe (1985). Her poetry, like her work for theatre, is alive with vigorous speech idioms; collections include Memo For Spring (1972), True Confessions and New Clichés (1985), Bagpipe Muzak (1991) and Dreaming Frankenstein: and Collected Poems (1984) and most recently The Colour of Black & White: poems 1984-2003 (Edinburgh: Polygon, 2003) and a Choosing (Edinburgh: Polygon, 2011). Liz is a visceral performer - delivering verse with vim and aplomb - with a noted preoccupation for all things Gothic. We're mighty excited tae have her with us!

SCOTT HUTCHISON of FRIGHTENED RABBIT:
Scott is head honcho of Frightened Rabbit - a Scottish indie rock band from Selkirk, formed in 2003. The lineup consists of lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and lyricist Scott Hutchison, guitarist and bassist Billy Kennedy, guitarist Andy Monaghan, drummer Grant Hutchison and guitarist and keyboardist Gordon Skene. The band released their debut album Sing the Greys in May 2006 on local label, Hits The Fan. The band were offered a deal from Fiction Records but ultimately decided not to sign with the label. In January 2007, The Self-Starter Foundation brought the band to the east coast of the United States for a short tour. The band returned to the United States in March to play SXSW.Brighton indie label Fat Cat Records released a remixed/remastered version of the album in the USA in October 2007, distributed by Caroline Distribution. The band then embarked on a full American tour. The album was released in the UK in November 2007. They went on to release The Midnight Organ Fight (2008) and The Winter of Mixed Drinks (2010) to royally fervent reviews, played some slots alongside Death Cab for a Cutie, engaged in a fair shift of philanthropic endeavours and then (be fine fellows) unshackled a free EP - A Frightened Rabbit EP in 2011. There's heaps more but you'll have to undress that yerself - http://frightenedrabbit.com/.
